Industrial tapes are the most common tool in many areas of industrial sectors, supply chain or logistics sectors, or even in medical sector as well, where they provide us with solutions like bonding, insulation, sealing, and many many more applications like these.
According to the usages of tapes, there are many tapes designed and manufactured for fulfillin different purposes and demands. So, there is a need to understand the industrial tapes and there different applications for increasing the efficiency. So, here we will discuss different types of tapes available for use, and their materials of which they are made, and where to use those different material tapes.
It is the most common type of tape, and the main function of these are to bond with the surface or to bond two surfaces together. So, these can further be classified in two types like Double sided tape, and single sided tape.
In the double sided tapes the adhesive material is on both side of them, which allows them to be used in areas where the tapes need to be concealed, or surface of the thing need to be visible with anyone noticing the tape behind. Like if we want to insulate a material we can paste the tape layer behind as a sticking material, and then put some insulator above them.
In single sided tapes on one side of the tapes has adhesive feature on it. These are commonly used for the bonding or packaging of materials, or many other versatile application can be done with them according to there making.
2. Duct Tape
These tapes are known for their versatile use. These have ha backing material made from cloths and have a strong adhesion on them. Their traditional use is in repairing materials, but its strong bonding and overall strength make them a good choice for the sealing and securing of the items in transit. These tapes can be used on a variety of surfaces making them an ideal choice for every need that involves irregular shapes.
3. Electrical Tape
These tapes are mainly designed for the insulation of the electrical wires and connections. As when wires get damaged of we have to connect two pieces of wires together then we can insulate the naked wire piece with these tapes so that electric current can not pas through them, also they are somewhat heat resistant also to coup up with the wire temperatures when they are live.
4. Masking Tape
The main use of these tapes are in the painting and crafting work. But these tapes also play a role in the shipping or transportation of goods for the labelling of the items or for the temporary adhesion of item on them. So, they just can be easily tore open when even needed and applied again when needed without damaging the orignal packaging of the pallet or parcel. Its adhesive properties make them able to be used for many surfaces either they are plastic, paper, any metal. So they are of versatile use.
5. Heat Resistant Tape
These tapes are made with such materials that can withstant very high temperatures of the surfaces and environment. Such tapes are used for the electrical insulations in motors which get heated up when ran for very long times etc. Also they can be used where there are extreme weathers or man made heat.
6. Foam Tape
These tapes have a compressible structure and can be used where there is a need for filling gaps, like in automotives or electrical equipements. These can be used for coushioning of sensitive parts, for sealing, and also for noise blocking.
7. Specialty Tapes
These tapes include gaffer tapes and sealing tapes and many other special function tapes that have some specific tasks, that they can only fulfil. Like gaffer tapes are used in the entertainment industry for temporary making or bonding the mic or cameras onto the surfaces, so that no residue is left behind. And sealing tapes are very common tapes for the purpose of sealing boxes and packages for transit.
Polyethylene, vinyl, paper, foam, silicone and many other special materials are commonly used for the manufacturing of the backing material of the tapes.
Polyethylene is commonly used for the making of duct tape or packaging tapes for their characteristics like durability and their moisture resistance when make them a good choice for outdoor works. Vinyl is used for electrical tapes and also on masking tapes for their flexibility, resistance to heat, light, and chemicals etc.
Paper is used as a backing for light weight tapes, that can be teared easily. Foam is in foam tapes to provide compressibilty and flexibility. And Silicone made tapes are durable, heat resistant and flexible also.
Similarly we can made other special material backing tapes for some specific tasks and constraints fixing as this is a versatile industry.
There are a number of industries or businesses that uses tapes for various tasks in the daily routine. Some of examples of such industries include construction that uses industrial or special tapes for sealing of the structures, insulation and also for joining of the materials. Duct tapes and other specailty tapes come in handy in many of the tasks during construction.
Automotive industry also uses tapes for many applications, like foam tapes are used for gaps filling, and noise reduction, also masking tapes are used when painting etc. In electronics industry tapes are very crucial for the insulation of the material which prevent shot circuting and shocks. HVACs also uses sealing tapes for the complete working of the equipments.
Most manufacturers uses tapes for the packing of their materials, for labelling them, and for the bonding of materials together.
So, we can see that tapes are of very important value in many industries and businesses as most of their work depends on them, so there is a need for a better understanding of them and then utilizing them properly for the smooth and effective running of the business.
